2026 Golf Trip Packing List: 25 Must-Have Essentials

You would be surprised what gets left in the drawer. Clubs usually make the car. The second glove, rain pants, charger, spare spikes, and the bag rain hood often do not. On a U.S. resort or stay-and-play with a pool, swim trunks are the miss that sends the group to the shop at 4 p.m. Print this list. Check it off. Then add only the destination extras at the bottom.

Clubs and travel

• Clubs — the set you play at home
• Travel case that can take a baggage toss
• Headcovers on woods and hybrids
• AirTag or tracker in the case before you leave the house
• Luggage tag with your phone number, not just a monogram
• TSA lock if the case takes one
• Stiff arm or alignment stick if you already use one
• Shoe bag so spikes stay out of the clothes suitcase
• Airline size/weight check, or a ship-ahead confirm if that is the plan

On the course

• Balls — one sleeve per round, plus extras
• Tees — a handful, not the six left in the side pocket
• Two gloves (the second is the miss)
• Rain glove if rain is in the forecast
• Ball marker and a divot tool (a dime is not a marker)
• Golf towel — not the hotel hand towel
• Groove brush
• Rangefinder or the GPS watch you already know
• Sharpie for your ball
• Pencil
• Bag rain hood (this one stays in the garage)

Clothes

• Collared shirts — one per day, plus one
• Shorts or pants the course will let you on in
• Belt the dress code will accept
• Extra socks — more pairs than days
• Broken-in golf shoes, not a pair you just bought
• Spare soft spikes and the wrench
• Second pair of shoes if you are playing 36
• Hat or visor you will wear for four hours

Weather

• Rain jacket you already trust
• Rain pants (the miss next to the jacket)
• Wind shell you can take off after the front nine
• Golf umbrella — skip the cheap one that inverts
• If the bag itself leaks: waterproof golf bags

Tech

• Phone charger
• Power bank
• Cable or spare battery for the rangefinder / GPS
• Headphones for the flight
• Offline map of the destination downloaded

Documents

• Real ID or passport
• Printed tee times
• Hotel confirmation (some resort wifi wants the room number)
• Cards and a little cash for caddies and valet
• Prescriptions in the carry-on
• Health insurance card

Off the course

• Swim trunks — the miss at the hotel pool
• Casual clothes for dinner
• Closed-toe shoes if the dining room wants them
• Sandals or flip-flops for the pool
• Toiletries that clear TSA
• Laundry bag for wet socks and rain pants

Sun and health

• Sunscreen — put it on in the parking lot
• SPF lip balm
• Sunglasses that stay on in wind
• Electrolytes (cart water is warm and late)
• Pain reliever you already take
• Blister tape
• Personal meds for the full trip

Labor Day and late summer

Labor Day golf destinations. After Monday, fall golf trips.

• Third polo if you are playing 54
• Extra socks for humidity
• Electrolytes even up north on a 36-hole Saturday
• Swim trunks — lake or pool, there usually is one
• Light rain layer; Labor Day weather is not a sure thing

Scottsdale and desert winter

Scottsdale winter golf.

• SPF 50 on before the range
• Light layer for an 8 a.m. first tee in the 40s
• Extra tees and extra balls — hardpan snaps them, desert eats them
• Second glove that will not turn to cardboard
• Electrolytes even at 68°; cooling towel if you play afternoon
• Swim trunks — every stay-and-play has a pool

Coast and wind

• Rain pants — this is where that miss hurts (Bandon, Kiawah, Arcadia, Chambers)
• Second dry glove plus a rain glove
• Two towels and a windproof pullover
• Shoes that still have spikes
• Extra balls; bag rain hood on before the turn
• Hat that stays on in wind, with a secure clip

Pinehurst and the Southeast

Pinehurst resort. Hilton Head, Kiawah, Grand Strand if the house is already booked.

• Extra socks and an extra glove — humidity eats leather
• Bug spray for late afternoon
• Rain layer even when the app says 10%
• Swim trunks — there is a pool; do not count on the shop
• Collar for the course and the range; dinner layer if the dining room wants it
