Garmin’s current everyday golf watch is the Approach S50, not the leftover Approach S12 and not the trophy S70. List $399.99. 42 mm. 1.2-inch AMOLED. About 29 g. Up to 15 hours GPS. 43,000+ preloaded courses. Front, middle, back. Hazard view. PlaysLike is on the watch.

Bright in sun. Thin enough to forget at address. Heart rate, sleep, Body Battery, Garmin Pay, music if you live in that stack. Approach CT1 tags are $99.99 for 16, sold separately, tap-to-track — not automatic.

Bushnell’s current watch is still the iON Elite, not the support-only iON2. List $219.99. August 2026 shop $189.99. 1.28-inch color touchscreen. 38,000+ courses. Front / center / back, HoleView, GreenView with a movable pin, Bushnell slope. Tournament mode kills slope and shows a white ring.

Electronics spec: 12+ hours, IP67, 15 mm thick, 38 g. Marketing also says 18+ hours / two-plus rounds. Plan from the 12+ hour line.

iON Elite — $219.99 list on Bushnell Golf.

Strengths

• Slope on the wrist, with a real tournament toggle
• Color maps and a movable pin under $220 list
• Simple enough to use on hole 2, not only in the lot

Limitations

• 15 mm thick. You will feel it if you are picky over a four-footer
• Charge Friday night. Do not assume 36 holes

Garmin Approach S44

Garmin’s golf-first AMOLED, no optical HR. List $299.99. Same 1.2-inch screen, 43,000+ courses, 15-hour GPS claim as the S50. PlaysLike needs the Garmin Golf membership.

Approach S44 — $299.99. Do not stack $99.99 a year on this one to fake an S70. If you were going to subscribe, buy the S50.

• Golf tools without the wellness stack

Limitations

• PlaysLike, enhanced maps, and touch targeting sit on a membership
• Still GPS-to-green
• You will miss HR and Pay the week you try to wear it daily

Still the dedicated golf flagship. 42 mm $649.99. 47 mm $699.99. Ceramic bezel. 1.2-inch or 1.4-inch AMOLED. Multi-band GNSS. Virtual Caddie, barometer PlaysLike, wind when the phone is along. GPS: up to 15 hours (42 mm) or 20 hours (47 mm). 43,000+ CourseView maps in more detail than the S50 out of the box.

Green contours still want a Garmin Golf membership. Club tracking still wants CT10 or CT1.

Approach S70 42 mm — $649.99. 47 mm — $699.99.

Strengths

• Virtual Caddie and the better map live on the watch
• Multi-band GPS. The S50 is not
• 42 mm exists. You do not have to wear a 47 mm puck

Limitations

• $650–$700 to do the S50 job plus a better map. Most Saturdays will not feel $250 better
• Membership still gates green contours
• 47 mm is 56 g and 13.4 mm. Loud on a putting wrist

Shot Scope X5 Track

Strengths

• Automatic shot tracking without a Garmin membership
• Tags in the box. Not another $100 of CT1
• Free strokes-gained dashboard. You play. Grips do the work

Limitations

• MIP color, not Garmin AMOLED
• Charge it. This is not 16 days of smartwatch life
• PinCollect is a post-green tap for stats, not a laser to the flag
• Forget a tag, and that club is a ghost in the app

Garmin fēnix 8

AMOLED series still starts at $999.99. Sapphire 47 mm list $1,099.99. Golf is in there: PlaysLike, Virtual Caddie, PinPointer, tournament mode, Approach sensors, Z30 pairing. Same idea as the S70, under triathlon menus and a granite case.

Do not buy this for better front / middle / back. Buy it if you already wanted a fēnix.

fēnix 8 47 mm AMOLED — from $999.99. Street sometimes dumps $250. List is still four figures.

Strengths

• S70-class golf plus the rest of Garmin outdoor
• Battery in days, not “will it survive 18”
• Tournament mode kills PinPointer and PlaysLike when the committee cares

Limitations

• $1,000 to wear a hiking computer on a putting green
• 47 / 51 mm is bulky. Glove, watch, pride
• If the only sport is golf, this is a bad spend. That is the S70 or the S50

Saturday golf plus the rest of the week: Approach S50 at $399.99. Do not subscribe on day one. Add membership only if you start missing contours.

Same job, $220 list: iON Elite. Slope off when the card is a tournament. Charge it. Golf watch, not a phone.

Garmin maps, no HR, $300: S44. Do not fake an S70 with a yearly membership.

Caddie on the watch: S70 42 mm at $649.99. Skip 47 mm unless the wrist wants 1.4 inches.

Already live in a fēnix: keep the fēnix 8. Do not upgrade into one for golf.
